The Director of Public Social Services, under the direction of the Board of Supervisors, shall administer those activities and functions involved in providing aid or social services or both, within the limits authorized by law or ordinance, to persons who, because of their economic circumstances or social conditions, are in need thereof and may benefit thereby. He shall perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Board of Supervisors or by law.
